EXPERIENCE:

This is my twenty-first year in education and my fifteenth year with Randolph County Schools.  I spent seven years at Northeastern Randolph MS, teaching Health & Physical Education and coaching (basketball, volleyball & wrestling).  I also served as Athletics Director for three years.  Since coming to this side of the county, I have taught at Braxton Craven MS (Life Skills, Computer Technology and Health & PE) for four years, while teaching 7th Grade Science at Archdale-Trinity MS for two years.  I also coached basketball and volleyball for six years at ATMS.  I served as Athletics Director and assisted with girls basketball and volleyball this past year.

I am one of three Health & PE teachers at TMS.  Please feel free to contact me regarding my classes!  I look forward to a great second year at TMS!

BIOGRAPHY:

I was born in Virginia, but spent my pre-school through middle school years overseas, living in Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Kuwait and Portugal.  I finally came home to Virginia and graduated from Manassas Park High.  I served in the U.S. Navy (Submarine Service), and upon discharge, I was employed as a field engineer for two government contractors.  Volunteer coaching stints and two good friends (both teachers) motivated me to pursue a career change. I taught one year in Virginia before moving to North Carolina, where I was a stay-at-home dad for a few years. However, in the meantime, I realized a childhood dream, working as a sportswriter for the High Point Enterprise.  I also worked for the Winston Journal and Archdale-Trinity News before returning to teaching.  I have spent the majority of my teaching career at the middle school level, and I truly enjoy this age group!

I am married to my best friend, Sharon Hughes, also a teacher at TMS.  My hobbies include watching most sports and fishing; however, my passion is competing in triathlons.
